GIRLSCHOOL Pays Tribute To LEMMY: 'We Lost A True Friend'

Veteran all-girl British hard rockers GIRLSCHOOL have released the following statement regarding the passing of MOTÖRHEAD vocalist/bassist Ian "Lemmy" Kilmister:

"Today it is a very sad day in rock, we lost a true friend, someone who since 1979 was part of our lives and our history as band.

"We played together, recorded and toured together, but most and foremost we had the opportunity to know Lemmy's true and kind heart!

"RIP, Lem, we have no words to express how much we miss you!"

The collaboration between MOTÖRHEAD and GIRLSCHOOL started in March 1979, when MOTÖRHEAD began its first big tour in support of the "Overkill" album and GIRLSCHOOL was the opening act. Lemmy had heard GIRLSCHOOL's single "Take It All Away" and thought they were "fucking excellent" and liked the idea of girls being in a band. He told Crypt Magazine: "All of these [female] bands, people treat them like second-class citizens, because they're chicks. There's all this, 'Show us your tits, and we'll give you a gig.' And all of that shit. It's really like, poor."

In 1980, MOTÖRHEAD and GIRLSCHOOL collaborated in HEADGIRL, the result being the "St. Valentine's Day Massacre" EP, though the groups were credited as MotörheadGirlschool on the EP.

The 1981 "Please Don't Touch" cover was a collaboration between GIRLSCHOOL and MOTÖRHEAD.
